Tire / Tyre Industry in Korea

South Korea is a medium sized country that punches well above its weight in the international tire industry. The domestic market is no larger than to be expected in a country with a population of 50 million and a per capita GDP slightly higher than that of Spain or Italy. However, in the manufacturing of tires, Korea is a major player. Two of its companies, Hankook and Kumho, are amongst the top twelve tire manufacturers whilst the third, Nexen, ranks 20th.

Korean Tire RegionsThese companies have all expanded overseas and have factories in China, the United States and Europe but the bulk of their sophisticated products are still made in South Korea.

Two reports are available for this region. The one that can be downloaded immediately examines the structure of the tire manufacturing industry in South Korea and surveys every tire factory in the region on a comparable basis.

An Apology

Half the world uses the word "tire" whilst the other half uses "tyre". Unfortunately search engines don't realise that they mean the same. In order to be recognised by the search machines we have had to resort to the irritating strategy of duplicating the two words. Sorry!
