Tire / Tyre Industry in South America

The name "South America" as used in this context also includes Central America and the Caribbean. It is mainly Spanish and Portuguese speaking and it encompasses a wide variety of economies from middle-income states such as Argentina or Chile to some of the poorest in the world such as Haiti.

The region and the tire market are dominated by Brazil - a country with five times the population of its nearest rival in the region and the "B" of "BRIC". It has underperformed its potential for much of the last century but in the last decade it has shown strong growth, even though this has slackened recently.

South American Tire RegionsThe region and the tire market are dominated by Brazil - a country with five times the population of its nearest rival in the region and the "B" of "BRIC". It has underperformed its potential for much of the last century but in the last decade it has shown strong growth, even though this has slackened recently.

Most of the existing tire factories are in Brazil and, because of the potential, three other major manufacturers have begun to invest in manufacturing. The market is dominated by Pirelli, Bridgestone and Goodyear but other companies have not been blind to the opportunities. Both Indian and Chinese tire manufacturers have strengthened their marketing operations in South America, often working from an office in Miami because of the excellent communications. The countries on the Pacific Rim have been particularly susceptible to increased exports from Korea, China and Indonesia but these are now spreading throughout the continent.

The global tire manufacturers are well represented in the region but in addition, the continent is host to a major indigenous manufacturer; FATE of Argentina.

Two reports are available for this region. The one which can be downloaded immediately  examines the structure of the tire manufacturing industry in South America and surveys every tire factory in the region on a comparable basis.

An Apology

Half the world uses the word "tire" whilst the other half uses "tyre". Unfortunately search engines don't realise that they mean the same. In order to be recognised by the search machines we have had to resort to the irritating strategy of duplicating the two words. Sorry!
